Level Design

Level design has been a hobby of mine for ~5 years now and it is one of the few things that make me lose the track of time.

I had modded games for my own pleasure for years but around 2017 I wanted to dwell deeper into level design. Between the years 2017-2020 I read - and watched - everything related to level design I could get my hands on. At the same time, I was constantly building levels and mods for Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

I learned a lot and ended up with a total of nine levels in seven mods. As of February 2022 these seven mods have been downloaded ~162000 times.

Currently I have no active plans or projects related to level design as I have plenty of other stuff going on in my life. At some point I hope I will have the time to build more levels. I still got plenty of ideas for Skyrim and would love to build levels also for other games.

What I have built

Darken Order: Temple of the Darken Lady

(01/2021): Small/Medium sized intensive Cathedral with a new puzzle mechanic. The level seeks to give more role playing options for Paladins and Clerics good or evil.

From a modder to a level designer: Modeling levels

(11/2019): A write-up about how I model my levels and how the model helps me in the level building process.

Vrage’s Watch

(10/2019): Medium/Large sized Fort/Crypt with a balanced set of puzzles and action. The level seeks to give more role playing options for Necromancers.

Lost Spells: Deathchantress

(06/2019): Adds thirteen new and balanced spells to the game seeking to give more role playing options for Conjurers, Necromancers and Frost Mages.

Isle of Storm

(05/2019): Medium/Large sized island and Fort with a storm theme. The level has multiple paths to complete and contains lots of puzzles.

From a modder to a level designer: Player Agency and Level Flow

(03/2019): A write-up about how I understood the level design concepts of Player Agency and Level Flow.

Frostfaarn

(01/2019): Medium/Large sized Crypt with multiple paths to complete. The level which seeks to give Necromancers and Conjurers more role playing options.

Snowgaard

(11/2018): Small/Medium sized action heavy Crypt which seeks to give Conjurers more role playing options.

Winter’s Grasp

(10/2018) Small/Medium sized linear Fort which seeks to give frost magic a boost to make in par with fire and shock magic.
